10th Annual Back to School Readiness Event in Dorchester Co.

(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – For the 10th straight year, Eastern Shore Wellness Solutions and their community partners lend a hand to the kids of Dorchester County. Because they’re help them get set to go back to school.ing

From clothes and backpacks, to even haircuts, volunteers from across the county are making sure Back to School season is a success for every child.

“Just to have these children go back with fresh styles and feeling like they belong, I think it’s very important to the families. So these services are here not as a handout, but definitely as a hand up,” says Eastern Shore Wellness Solutions Board Member, Lynette Wongus.

For parents and grandparents alike getting this help for their kids takes some of the pressure off of the family with school starting up again.

Just ask Tamika Rose, a grandmother from Cambridge who tells WMDT, “That helps. It helps people and community. Everybody needs a little help, especially with these children. And it’s it costs a whole lot to take care of children. I believe that this is a blessing for everybody.”

“That’s a good thing, because a lot of people don’t have things that they need. And this is a wonderful day. They can, you know, get a jump start on a school year,” says Cambridge’s Larry Farare as he helps get his granddaughter ready for first grade.

And even some of the younger members of the community are lending a hand.

Sydnuy Stanley, a local sixth grader says, “And some people can’t afford stuff. Stuff work. that’s why we’re having this event. So people can come out and get their hair done and like get things they need.”

The Back to School Readiness Event serves over 1,00 Dorchester County kids.
