Youth Poultry Show Highlights Young Livestock Handlers at Delaware State Fair
HARRINGTON, De. – The Youth Poultry Show took place Jul. 31st at the Delaware State Fair, giving young children an opportunity to show off their feathery friend.
Although the event is an adorable spectacle, it helps teach the children important skills and introduces them to the world of livestock and agriculture.
Drew Harris is the assistant superintendent in the poultry department, and emphasized how the poultry showing is a good stepping stone for young children.
“I always view our department as kind of the spark that can get a really big fire going, in relation to interest in agriculture and livestock.” Said Harris. “It’s a great way to get them started because the animals are really easy to handle, and they don’t really cost a great deal to maintain and feed.”
Children at the event showed off a variety of poultry, from ducks to chickens and roosters, an egg-cellent display in livestock showing.
