Chesapeake Utilities Responds to Exposed Gas Lines in Snow Hill

Snowhillourtown

SNOW HILL, Md. – Chesapeake Utilities is currently working to repair gas lines exposed to water infiltration on the westside of Snow Hill.

The company says they first became aware of the leak on Tuesday, Jul. 7, when service was interrupted for some customers. Since the issue was discovered, Chesapeake Utilities has been working to resolve the issue and restore gas service to impacted customers. They say that at this time, they have isolated the issue and are working to restore normal service as quickly as possible.

Authorities say temporary lane closures are expected, particularly in the Church Street area, while the company performs vapor mitigation, including burning off excess gas from the lines to complete repairs. The execution of these tasks is safe and necessary, and town officials say there is no risk to the public during repair work. Repairs are expected to be complete by Friday, Jul. 10.

Snow Hill residents may see Chesapeake Utilities or Sharp Energy employees on their property delivering temporary propane tanks so that customers with gas stoves, water heaters and other gas appliances can continue to operate those appliances as usual. Employees will be clearly identified with company logos if they enter your property.

However, as crews work to restore normal service, residents are advised of the following:

  • Purging water from gas lines may take several days
  • During restoration, service interruptions are possible
  • If service is temporarily interrupted, Chesapeake Utilities’ representatives will come to your home to relight appliances and restore service, once repairs are complete
