WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – Wicomico County has announced that lighting formerly used at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium will be repurposed and installed at WinterPlace Park, creating the first lighted athletic field on the east side of Wicomico County.

Leaders say the project represents another investment in the County’s park system and demonstrates a commitment to providing high-quality recreational opportunities. Rather than retiring the stadium lighting, the County identified an opportunity to relocate the fixtures to WinterPlace Park, where they will continue serving the community for years to come. Plus, the addition of field lighting will expand the park’s capabilities for hosting evening practices, games, tournaments, and community events.

“This is a tremendous win for our community,” said Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano. “By repurposing these lights from Shorebirds Stadium, we are making a smart investment that stretches taxpayer dollars while creating new opportunities for youth sports, families, and community events. WinterPlace Park has always been a valuable community asset, and these improvements will make it an even greater destination for generations to come.”

The timeline for installing lighting at WinterPlace Park has not been made public at this time.
