New Pedestrian Crosswalk Flags in Fenwick Island

FENWICK ISLAND, Del.– A new pedestrian safety initiative is now in place in Fenwick Island, where officials have installed bright red crosswalk flags at unsignalized crossings throughout town.

The flags are designed to make pedestrians more visible to drivers while crossing busy roadways. Pedestrians are encouraged to take a flag from a designated bin before entering a crosswalk, hold it up while crossing to alert approaching traffic, and place it in the collection bin on the opposite side after safely crossing the road.

Mayor Natalie Magdeburger said the program has already received positive feedback from residents and visitors.

“We received very positive feedback from our community this weekend,” Magdeburger said. “We hope it will help folks get across the highway safely. Plus it’s a little fun to wave the flag.”

Town officials are also reminding both drivers and pedestrians to remain alert, obey traffic laws and use designated crosswalks to help keep everyone safe during the busy summer season.
