Jellyfish are Causing a Sting In Bethany Beach

BETHANY BEACH, Del.– Beachgoers in Bethany Beach are reporting an increase in Jellyfish along the shoreline, prompting officials to remind swimmers to stay aware of the jellyfish as we continue through the summer season.

Jellyfish populations can fluctuate throughout the summer due to a combination of warm ocean temperatures, changing currents and tides.

Bethany Beach Lifeguard Patrol Captain Joe Donnelly shares what people can do to help make the best of this situation.

“We’re obviously not restricting swimming or anything like that. But if somebody gets stung we have a spray that we use,” Donnelly said. “But if they feel like they’d gotten stung or so, please see the lifeguard and the lifeguards can assist.”

Visitors are encouraged to check daily beach conditions before heading into the water and to follow any guidance from lifeguards during their visit.
