Hurlock Advises Voluntary Conservation Amid Well Repairs
(HURLOCK, Md) – The town of Hurlock is asking residents to take it easy on their water use for the near future due to an issue with one of the town’s wells.
On Tuesday, the Town of Hurlock put a notice out to the public regarding the town’s shallow well being taken out of service for emergency repairs.
Mayor, Earl Murphy says debris in the well is the culprit.
He tells WMDT, “It was mentioned as a pebble, but at the same time, it was, just small pieces of debris that got into the pump. And the pump ended up, you know, running irregularly, which we had to shut it down.”
So the town is asking people to voluntarily conserve water as they operate with their deep well, capable of producing around 400 gallons of water a minute…
And Mayor Murphy says the response so far has been positive around Hurlock.
“We have a reason to look at conserving. And they’re helping us. They are not, you know, running their water like, you know, we want to keep our lawns beautiful and our plants beautiful at the same time,” says Murphy.
Mayor Murphy adds that the repairs to the well shouldn’t take longer until the end of July. But in the meantime, they’re not worried about any possible water supply issues because there’s more than 300,000 gallons of water sitting in the water tower
