NEWARK, Del. — A former teacher at a Newark childcare facility has been charged with felony child abuse following an investigation into allegations involving a 3-year-old child, according to Delaware State Police.

Police said the investigation began in late April after the child’s mother noticed bruising on her son’s wrist and sought medical treatment. Detectives with the Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit launched an investigation into the incident at the Delaware Technical Community College Stanton Childhood Development Center on Stanton-Christiana Road.

Investigators allege that 46-year-old Neha Gour, of Hockessin, who was employed as a teacher at the childcare center at the time, picked the child up by the neck and placed him in a chair, causing him to cry and grab his neck. Police also allege Gour then forcefully grabbed the child’s wrist and led him to another area of the classroom.

Following the investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Gour.

Gour turned herself in at Delaware State Police Troop 6 on June 30. She was charged with one count of third-degree child abuse, a felony.

Court records show Gour was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court and released on her own recognizance.

The investigation remains ongoing.
