Dover Man Charged in Kent County Courthouse Sexual Assault

DOVER, Del. – The Delaware Capitol Police have arrested a man after they say he sexually assaulted a woman in the courtyard of the Kent County Courthouse. 

Police arrested 30-year-old Tyreen Williams of Dover on charges of second degree rape and violation of privacy via recording or reproducing an image of an exposed person. He was arraigned and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $62,000 cash bail. Williams is already registered as a Tier II sex offender in the state of Delaware.

Officers say the assault allegedly occurred late Saturday night in the courthouse courtyard, which the local homeless community has typically found to be a safe, well-lit area with access to electrical outlets for charging cell phones. Immediately following the reported incident, Capitol Police detectives launched an investigation in collaboration with the Dover Police Department and the Delaware Department of Justice. Williams was quickly identified as a suspect and arrested.
