DEWEY BEACH, Del. – The Dewey Beach Police Department has arrested a Dover man in connection with a domestic-related stabbing.

Police have arrested 37-year-old Samuel Coker on charges of first degree assault, possessing a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of criminal mischief, and related charges. After being released from the hospital, Coker was arraigned and committed to the Delaware Department of Correction on an intoxication hold.

On Jul. 3 at 10:25 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Read Avenue for a reported stabbing. Upon arrival on the scene, officers located a 37-year-old man from Clayton at the intersection of Coastal Highway and Read Avenue suffering from multiple stab wounds to his upper torso. Officers immediately rendered aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. Police say he was transported to an area hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

A preliminary investigation by police revealed that Coker arrived uninvited at the residence of his children and their mother, and became involved in a physical altercation with the woman’s boyfriend. During the altercation, Coker allegedly produced a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times in the upper torso. The woman and children present during the incident were not injured. Coker sustained injuries during the altercation and was transported to Beebe Healthcare for treatment.
