Authorities Investigating Death of 4-Year-Old Girl in Pocomoke City

POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – Authorities are investigating the death of a four-year-old girl following an emergency search on Sunday morning.

Around 11:00 a.m. on Jul. 26, the Pocomoke City Police Department posted on social media that they were searching for a missing four-year-old girl who was last seen in the are of Clarke Avenue and Laurel Street. They described her as wearing pajamas and and a ponytail.

Within the hour, police said they had located the child, but later that afternoon announced she had been found deceased, despite life-saving efforts by law enforcement and EMS personnel.

The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of the child, and says no further information will be released at this time.

Pocomoke City residents reacted to the incident on Sunday afternoon. Mayor Todd J. Nock gave his condolences as well, announcing that a vigil would be held that evening in Cypress Park.

“There are simply no words that can ease the pain of a loss like this. On behalf of the City of Pocomoke City, I extend my deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the child’s family and loved ones,” Mayor Nock said on Sunday afternoon. “Our entire community grieves alongside you, and we ask everyone to keep this family lifted in prayer during this unimaginable time.”
