Talbot Co. House Burns After Being Ignited from Discarded Ashes

TRAPPE, Md. – A Talbot County home has suffered extensive fire damage after improperly discarded ashes from a burn barrel ignited the rear porch of the home.

At 10:44 a.m. on Wednesday, Jun. 3, crews with the Trappe Volunteer Fire Company and other local departments responded to a structure fire at a one-story home on Backtown Road. A passerby in the area alerted authorities after observing fire coming from the home.

A total of 43 firefighters worked for an hour to put out the flames. The total damage to the house and its contents is estimated to be valued at $250,000.

The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal responded to investigate the cause of the fire, which has been deemed accidental.
