Fenwick Island Cancels Election Due to Lack of Candidates
FENWICK ISLAND, Del. – The Town of Fenwick Island has canceled their municipal election due to a lack of candidates applying to run.
Town officials say the candidate filing period closed on Jun. 18, and only two qualified candidates filed by the deadline. Because the number of candidates does not exceed the number of seats open for election, an uncontested election has been declared and no formal election will be held on Aug. 1.
The candidates who filed, James Simpson and Behrooz Garavi, will be sworn in and take office following the Town Council Reorganization Meeting in August.
Three Town Council seats were available this year. Pursuant to the Town Charter and Code, the remaining vacant Town Council seat will be filled by appointment of the Mayor and Town Council following the Reorganization Meeting.
