Cannery Park Celebrates Phase One Grand Opening

CAMBRIDGE, Md, – Cannery Park, adjacent to the historic Packing House, held it’s grand opening event to celebrate the completion of it’s phase one renovations.

The main feature unveiled in this phase was a new full enclosed dog park.

Brian Roche, the commissioner of the fifth ward in Cambridge, spoke highly on the importance of the updates.

“If you look at the map, this is Cambridge’s central park, and it’s part of a larger mission to connect a vibrant public space and community type center with economic development to the waterfront.” Said Roche.

Phase one is the first step in a string of renovations set to take place for the park. Future plans include restoration on the smokestack, a splash pad, and a skate park. Developments come after the city received adequate funding to complete the project.

“The primary funding for this was community development block grant funding.” Said Roche. “Our partner, Department of Housing and Community Development helped us with those.”
