Diesel Tanker Crash Causes Fuel Spill on Route 50

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – A diesel tanker was involved in a crash causing it to overturn and leak fuel westbound on Route 50 near Cambridge.

The incident occured around 9am, causing closures in both lanes. Traffic was diverted to Old Route 50 to avoid the affected area while first responders attended to the crash. Multiple vehicles were reported to be involved in the incident. The oil tanker was holding over 2,500 gallons of oil, and began leaking when overturned.

The area remained closed until approximately 4pm, while cleanup crews worked to clear the spilled fuel. Lanes are reportedly beginning to reopen.
