Wicomico County Sheriff Candidates Outline Priorities at Sheriff Forum
WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. — The Delmarva Conservative Movement hosted the Wicomico County sheriff forum Tuesday night.
Current Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis said, “This is a great opportunity for this community to come together here and just hear what they have to say, what their priorities are and to see the reaction of those in the room.”
Community members gathered to hear from the three Wicomico County sheriff candidates: Sheriff Mike Lewis, Scott Hamilton and Lana Foley.
Foley said, “I’m really grateful for the experience and just being able to be part of it. For people to get a chance to even consider me is a true blessing.”
Each candidate had the opportunity to answer seven questions highlighting their qualifications. For Hamilton, that means placing less emphasis on politics.
Hamilton, president of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 111, said, “I believe that we should walk down the path of law and order, not left and right, not Democrat or Republican. If I walk down the middle of that path and give the same service to everybody, that’s the best we can do for our community.”
Lewis is seeking a sixth term and said he wants to continue advocating for the county.
“My job is to go out there and advocate for Wicomico County, advocate for my constituents, advocate for their beliefs and why the Eastern Shore is so very important to so many people. I want to preserve what we have here,” Lewis said.
Foley said she wants to bring a new perspective to the office and support community members who feel unseen.
“We need to be more accepting of people, especially in a position like this when it’s political,” Foley said. “Political doesn’t mean red or blue. Political means that you are supportive of your community and that you’re elected to do that.”
The forum gave community members a chance to hear directly from each candidate ahead of the June election.
The candidates are scheduled to host another forum June 4 at the Savour Restaurant in the DoubleTree Hotel.
