GEORGETOWN, Del. — Delaware State Police are investigating an armed home invasion that occurred Friday morning at a residence near Georgetown.

Troopers responded at approximately 10:30 a.m. to the 24000 block of Lawson Road after a home security company reported a panic alarm activation, according to police.

Investigators said an 83-year-old woman activated the alarm after an unknown man forced his way into her home when she answered the front door.

Once inside, the suspect allegedly pointed a handgun at the woman and demanded to see another person he believed was inside the residence. Police said the woman managed to lock herself inside a bedroom and activate her panic alarm while the suspect searched the home. The suspect later fled in an unknown direction. The woman was not injured during the incident, police said.

The suspect was described as a white male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and may have been driving a black pickup truck.

The Delaware State Police Troop 4 Criminal Investigation Unit is continuing to investigate. Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area or who may have information about the incident to contact Detective L. Coleman at (302) 752-3813 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) 847-3333.
