Town Council Meetings Prepare for Storm Flooding

Fenwick Island, De. – A coastal town council is hosting meetings to promote public safety.

The Town of Fenwick Island is hosting a town hall forum for property owners. The Bayside Resiliency Planning & Flood Mitigation Strategies Forum is a community discussion aimed at protecting residents from flooding caused by storms. Organizers spoke about planning efforts made by the town’s infrastructure committee to increase flooding resiliency.
Property owners were encouraged to ask questions about those ongoing efforts.

“Ways to eliminate some of the energy of the waves from properties that are right on the bay. To be able to have these tools available for our property owners is advantageous” says Susan Brennan of the Town of Fenwick Island Council.

Those attending will be offered a “toolkit” of designs of what reinforcements can be placed on their properties. Strategies suggested by the council include wave attenuation and bio retention to lessen the intensity of bodies of water moving during storms.

Property owners are encouraged to attend the meetings as floods become more frequent in the area.

Brennan added “This is more than nuisance, like, we know what this is. This is tidal flooding.”

The next forum will be on Friday August twenty first.

Information addressed during the first meeting today can be found on Fenwick Island’s Website.
