TidalHealth Honors Volunteers With Celebration

500 Volunteers Gave 50,000 Hours Valued at $2.2 Million

SALISBURY – As part of National Volunteer Week, TidalHealth held a Volunteer Appreciation Celebration on April 20 at 1945 Steak & Seafood in Ocean City to recognize nearly 500 volunteers who support the health system’s three hospitals and ancillary services.

Steven Leonard, president and CEO of TidalHealth; Penny Short, senior vice president and president of TidalHealth Nanticoke; and Don Owrey, senior vice president and president of TidalHealth Atlantic, joined members of the hospital boards, the TidalHealth Foundation and the TidalHealth Atlantic Junior Auxiliary Group to thank volunteers in attendance for more than 50,000 hours of combined service provided to the health system’s team members, patients and visitors.

Through the efforts of active, year-round volunteers across all TidalHealth locations, leadership noted the health system realized an estimated savings of more than $2,200,000 in labor costs that would otherwise be required to support these services.

During the event, the TidalHealth Atlantic Auxiliary executive committee presented the TidalHealth Foundation with a $65,000 contribution. These funds will support a pediatric vision screening machine at the TidalHealth Gudelsky Family Pavilion; discharge assistance packages for TidalHealth Atlantic patients who struggle to afford medications, supplies or essential equipment; and the continued expansion of women’s health services at TidalHealth Atlantic, as well as TidalHealth’s Graduate Medical Education program.

The TidalHealth Atlantic Auxiliary also sponsors three TidalHealth Foundation events supporting TidalHealth Atlantic.

TidalHealth extends its sincere gratitude to all its volunteers for their unwavering dedication, compassion and service. Their commitment plays a vital role in enhancing the patient experience and supporting team members across the health system, and their contributions continue to make a meaningful difference in the communities TidalHealth serves.
