Stephen Decatur softball stuns Severna Park victory to advance to Region Final
BERLIN, Md. – Stephen Decatur softball walked off Severna Park 2-1 on Tuesday in Berlin, punching their ticket to the 3A East II Region Final.
Severna Park grabbed the lead in the low-scoring game on an RBI single from A Lundfelt in the top of the 5th inning. Decatur was held scoreless by Falcons pitcher Quinn Barry until the bottom of the 6th, when K Bounds drew a two-out walk then swiped second base before Julianna Woodall brought her home with an RBI single to left to tie the game at 1-1.
With the game tied in the bottom of the 7th, Hayden Esworthy reached first base on a fielding error, then took second on a sac bunt from L Hertzog. Alyssa Eisemann followed up with another bunt. Severna Park fielded it cleanly and threw out Eisemann at first, conceding the 60-foot advance of Esworthy–but to the surprise of the Falcons, the second baseman 120 on her mind, speeding around third and sliding in safe at home plate to end the game.
Stephen Decatur pitcher Emily Blume provided seven innings of two-hit ball, giving up just one run and walking one with six strikeouts.
The Seahawks will play at Arundel at 5 p.m. on Wednesday for the 3A East II Region Championship.
