Shore to Shore: A BBQ trail that leads back home
SALISBURY, Md. — A new edition of “Shore to Shore” is igniting Salisbury’s taste buds with a tradition carried on through fire, family and barbecue.
owner Joey Calabrese said the restaurant has remained a community staple for decades.
“The Taylors originally started it, and then my family — me, my mom, my dad and my older brother — bought it from them about 15 or 16 years ago,” Calabrese said. “We always saw the potential in it.”
Calabrese said the business has been a Salisbury staple for 30 years. While Taylor’s barbecue pork has remained the same, the Calabrese family added its own flair.
“I really deep-dived into brisket and made that a passion of mine,” Calabrese said. “I trim all the briskets every day here, and I help oversee the smoking process.”
The addition of brisket has become a fan favorite.
“I’ve always had a passion for trying to chase things you can’t master, but you can always keep building on,” Calabrese said. “Barbecue was kind of like that.”
Barbecue is an art — one painted in smoke and fire drifting through the air long enough to wake your taste buds. Every recipe has a story, and every smoke trail leads back home.
“We just loved the atmosphere of the place and the family-driven vibe,” Calabrese said. “They grew up with their daughter in there. My kids are in here. A lot of our kids menu items are named after my kids.”
Here, family and Eastern Shore history are retold one gathering at a time.
“All the wood in here is from the boardwalk,” Calabrese said. “When they redid it, we got the reclaimed boardwalk wood and used it in our decor. All these panels are from the original cookers, and that’s where Taylor’s got its roots.”
Those roots are grounded in community support, one plate at a time.
“We all live here, so we just wanted to be a part of the community,” Calabrese said. “We might branch out to other locations in the future. We’ll see what happens. But we’ll always be here.”
Taylor’s BBQ is located at 934 S. Salisbury Blvd. in Salisbury.
