Pocomoke Police warn about counterfeit money circulating Delmarva
POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – Pocomoke City police warning community members about the potential of fake, counterfeit money being used at local businesses.
The discovery was made after one business called police about the use of fake money. Police observed three $50 bills that they say had that waxy feel with the same serial numbers.
Authorities believe it is part of a large counterfeit operation that is using fake $20 and $50 bills… and the group has stretched from Seaford, Delaware, Pocomoke City, MD, and Exmore, Virginia.
Corporal Jon Laverty says to WMDT that he has experience with fake money in his time as an officer. He advises community members to remain cautious.
“If it looks fake, it’s probably fake. If something doesn’t feel right, you can always contact police, we have personally dealt with fake money in our time, and we can determine if it’s fake or not. I also want to urge business owners that is okay if you believe you are being handed fraudulent money to seize that money and contact police.”
Police are currently continuing their investigation into the matter, if you have any information, you can contact the Pocomoke City Police Department.
