New Ocean City USPS postal service location opens
Ocean City, Md. – During a time when the United States Postal Service is reportedly undergoing significant financial challenges, the post office in Ocean City isn’t shutting down, it’s officially in a new location.
In downtown Ocean City, the revamped building sits at 102 Worcester Street and is officially open as of 11 a.m. Wednesday. After the former location did not renew its lease, nonprofit Ocean City Development Corporation used grant funding from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development to revamp the current building for the USPS to lease.
“Our goal was to try to save it,” Executive Director for Ocean City Development Corporation Zach Bankert said. “Whether that was putting it in this building or finding another location, as long as it stayed downtown and as long as it continued to offer the P.O. boxes.”
Bankert said P.O. boxes are extremely important for the Ocean City business community, more so than in other locations.
“A lot of residents in town do not like mail delivered to their house,” he said. “If you’re a business on the boardwalk, you don’t want your mail plopped down on the on the counter in the middle of middle of July.”
