Mardela Softball wins 1A Class State Title

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Mardela Warriors challenging their perfect season, playing in the big dance for class 1A state title game. The battle of the undefeated, as they played Boonsboro out of Washington County.

Mardela was dominant in the game, scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, due to a Julia Wisk RBI Double, over the head of the Boonsboro outfielder. Then later in the inning, Elana Donalds with a grounder through center field, and that gets home a run. She eventually was tagged out at 2nd.

Ava Twilley talks to WMDT about playing Division 1 college softball. “Going from high school to college ball, I’m really excited to play for Mississippi State. I’m so grateful, and can’t wait to go down there.”

Bottom of the 2nd inning now, bases loaded for Camryn Dorr, who hits a left-field blooper. Two more runs for the Warriors.

A few batters later, Ava Twilley, with an absolute missile of a home run, proves she can hit just as well as she can pitch. Mardela scored 9 runs in the 2nd inning alone. She talks about the chemistry for the ladies.

“This group is so amazing. I’m so grateful for this high school team and wouldn’t be able to do it without them.”

The final score was Mardela 11, Boonsboro 0.

Head coach Kory Shiles, talking about what it took for the team to finish the season, “The girls came out like they have every single playoff game, 2 in the first 9 in the second, I felt like that 2nd inning was 30 minutes long; ” said coach Shiles. “I think this is one of the best softball teams to ever lace up the cleats in the state of Maryland.”
