Dover Police Investigating Fatal Memorial Day Crash

DOVER, Del. – The Dover Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that killed a 22-year-old motorcyclist on Memorial Day.

Police say the accident occurred on Monday, May 25, at 8:02 p.m., at the intersection of southbound North DuPont Highway and Lepore Drive. Officers arrived on scene and found a male motorcycle operator with severe injuries from the crash and immediately began rendering aid. The victim, later identified as Emmanuel Farmer of Smyrna, was transported to Bayhealth Kent Campus by emergency medical personnel where he was pronounced deceased.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a Jeep Wrangler was stopped in the northbound side of North DuPont Highway, in the left turn lane to turn onto Lepore Drive with a flashing red arrow. The Jeep Wrangler proceeded to cross the roadway in the path of the Yamaha R1 motorcycle being operated by Farmer, causing the motorcycle to strike the passenger side of the Jeep Wrangler.

The southbound lanes of North DuPont Highway were closed until for nearly three and a half hours following the accident.

Police say that while it is unknown if impairment was a factor, it is believed that Farmer had been operating the motorcycle at high speeds prior to the collision. No charges have been determined at this time.
