Discover Delmarva: Whispering Willow Homestead
PARSONSBURG, Md. — It’s Whispering Willow Homestead’s first summer open, and their animals just can’t contain their excitement. Nestled in Parsonsburg, this family-run petting farm gives visitors a chance to relax, connect with animals, and experience a slice of farm life.
“I wanted somewhere the family can go and not spend too much money but have a blast. And I wanted something that was more stress free for parents,” Owner Erica Coldiron said.
The homestead is filled with friendly faces: goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, and two cows, Cocoa and Baby, who are always eager for snacks. Their babydoll sheep steal the show — these little guys are so fluffy and small, they’re sure to be a fan-favorite. Plus, kids can hitch a ride on this sweet little guy, Ranger.
Coldiron says their goal is simple: to educate visitors, spark more interest in farming, and make sure everyone who walks through their gates has a great time while they’re there. “We have so many different animals that kids can learn different types of things. I want people to understand that there’s so many different aspects of farming that you can do with a small piece of land and create it to where the whole family is involved.”
The farm has games too, like “scoop the poop,” and lassoing.
“We have a little log cabin building area for them to try to build. . . We have a football throwing thing for older kids or the adults. We have giant Tetris, we have tiny inflatable bulls and inflatable horses for them to ride. We have a slide and a playhouse for them to go down.”
Whether it’s getting to hang out with farm animals, learning what life on the farm is really like, or just kicking back in the shade, Whispering Willow Homestead is all about providing a fun and educational experience for the whole family. “I just want it to be a place where everyone can come and have fun, enjoy animals, enjoy being outside, and spend time as a family again.”
