Community members went Over The Edge to raise money for ALICE
SALISBURY, Md. — The United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore said its annual campaign has raised more than $106,065, reaching 95% of its $111,000 goal with support from more than 690 donors.
This afternoon, community members, local business leaders and the WMDT sports team stood 14 stories above Salisbury on the roof of the Ross Hotel, rappelling over the edge of the tallest building in downtown Salisbury.
United Way hosted the event in partnership with the Ross Hotel and Over the Edge, all in support of ALICE community members. ALICE stands for Asset-Limited, Income-Constrained, Employed.
By rappelling down the Ross today, participants helped support essential workers such as cashiers and childcare providers.
The event broke records compared with last year, which had 45 participants. This year, 56 people rappelled, including three WMDT reporters.
WMDT sports team members Ronnell Foreman and Chris Brunk went over the edge, demonstrating that “local matters” is more than a motto. They were the third group to rappel today, raising awareness for families struggling to make ends meet and sharing their experience.
The event had a total of 56 rappelers. A deeper look at the event will air in the newest edition of The Brightside next Tuesday at 5:30 and 6 p.m.
