Weather Tidbits: The Frontal Triple Point

We’ll be discussing the triple point in this edition of Weather Tidbits. The triple point is the point where the warm front, the cold front, and the occluded front meet. An occluded front forms when the cold front catches up with the generally slower moving warm front. A low pressure system undergoing the occlusion process represents it’s most mature state. After this stage, the low pressure system will begin to weaken. The area near and just southeast of the triple point the greatest amount of lifting and wind shear. This mean the highest probabilities for severe weather will be at and or just southeast of the triple point. Additionally, with ample moisture convergence, this is where the heaviest rainfall will occur as well.
