Virginia 250 Mobile Museum visits Chincoteague Island
VIRGINIA. – The Virginia 250 Mobile Museum visited Chincoteague Island Thursday. The interactive museum on wheels highlights Virginia’s history for the USA’s 250th birthday.
The free exhibit included holograms and hands-on displays. It was located at the Chincoteague Town Office parking lot from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m on April 1st and 2nd.
Museum Program Coordinator Eric Smith talks about the famous Patrick Henry speech that took place at the Second Virginia Convention in Richmond.
“Patrick Henry gave that speech on the steps of St. John’s Church in Richmond, Virginia, in 1775, and I think now, those words even 251 years later ring true for me and every Virginian. ‘Give me liberty or give me death’ is not just a saying, it’s something that rings true to every Virginian, it’s a thought, an idea, an expression for freedom and about freedom.”
The Museum was established by the state general assembly in 2020 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America.
“We wanted to make sure every Virginian was reflected and highlighted in the story. Women, people of color, and native Americans, and we are excited to show that off in this big year.”
The next stop for the Mobile Museum will be in Richmond, Virginia, with the tentpole event happening in Williamsburg during the week of July 4th.
