UPDATE: Ocean City Reschedules Special Election after Councilman Yates Resigns

UPDATE: The Town of Ocean City has rescheduled its upcoming municipal special election to Friday, May 8, after Councilman Larry Yates announced his immediate resignation, due to health concerns. 

The special election will be held from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center, Dockside Exhibit Hall. Councilman Yates’ resignation leaves two open seats on the Ocean City Council. Residents interested in running for one of the open council seats must file their candidacy no later than 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 10. 

“The Town of Ocean City is grateful for Councilman Yates’ time and service on the City Council,” said City Manager Terry McGean. “He brought thoughtful perspective and a strong commitment to the community, and we thank him for his dedication and contributions to Ocean City during his tenure.”

Voters wishing to vote by absentee (mail-in) ballot must submit an application by 4:30 p.m. on May 7. Applications may be dropped off at City Hall or mailed to the Board of Supervisors of Elections of Ocean City, at 301 North Baltimore Avenue, Ocean City, Maryland 21842. Bus services will be provided as previously reported.

OCEAN CITY, Md. — The Town of Ocean City will hold a municipal special election on April 21 to fill a vacant seat on the town council, officials announced Monday.

Polling will take place from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center in the Dockside Exhibit Hall.

Two candidates, Peter Buas and Jeff Heiser, are seeking to fill the open council position.

Voters who wish to cast absentee ballots must submit an application by 4:30 p.m. on April 20. Applications may be dropped off at City Hall or mailed to the Board of Supervisors of Elections of Ocean City through the Office of the City Clerk. Ballot applications are also available online or in person at City Hall.

To assist voters, the town will offer free bus service throughout Election Day. The no-fare service, including ADA transportation for qualified riders, will operate from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. The Coastal Highway “Beach Bus” will run every 30 minutes, with stops located near the convention center along Coastal Highway.

Officials said ADA service will require reservations at least 24 hours in advance.
