Two Cats Killed in Chester House Fire; Marshals Investigating

CHESTER, Md. – The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating a housefire that displaced two on Sunday morning.

At 10:54 a.m. on Apr. 12, crews with the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department responded to a one-story residence in the 1300 block of Queen Anne Drive. A total of 30 firefighters arrived at the scene after a neighbor located the fire and called 911. Smoke alarms were present in the home, but not activated at the time of the fire.

Responding crews battled the blaze for 43 minutes before successfully extinguishing the fire. The total damage to the home and its contents is estimated to be valued at $400,000. While no injuries were reported, two pet cats perished in the fire. The displaced family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
