TidalHealth’s Family Medicine Residency Clinic
SALISBURY, Md. – In this week’s Health Beat, brought to you by TidalHealth, WMDT spoke with Dr. Katherine Goth, an OB/GYN and TidalHealth’s Family Medicine Residency Program Director.
Dr. Goth spoke with us about what TidalHealth is doing to take care of the whole family. TidalHealth’s Family Medicine Residency Clinic is the only clinic on the Eastern Shore that offers dyad care, which means caring for both babies and their caregivers as a whole. In particular, the clinic provides prenatal care, postpartum care, newborn care, as well as intra partum care.
“We can bring in spouses, we can bring in grandparents, we can bring in other children,” Dr. Goth said. “And so that way, the physician knows not only just the medical side, they also know the social factors that need to be taken into consideration. And by having that comprehensive view of care and wellness, we can keep the whole family.”
But the clinic isn’t only helping patient families — it’s also actively giving resident physicians additional training in their specialty area of interest. Residents are able to train with physicians who have decades of experience, whether that’s at the clinic or even when cases escalate to the hospital.
“We have continuity in that that same resident physician, that primary care physician can see them in the hospital as well as the clinic,” said Dr. Goth. “So that provides more thorough and seamless care. The patients enjoy it because they get to have a social relationship with their doctor, and get to have that continuous, experience with them.”
Additionally, the clinic has an innovative wellness program on site. Dr. Goth told WMDT that it’s the only clinic that has a registered dietitian, a behaviorist, and exercise physiologist physically present. There is also a teaching kitchen and a community garden for teaching patients about healthier dieting.
The clinic has an advisory committee made of community members that provide feedback about what other resources could assist in further engaging in the community.
