Third Friday is back for the warm weather season

SALISBURY, Md. — Third Friday is returning to downtown Salisbury, and local businesses are talking about the event that kicks off the warm-weather season.

Lauren Bailey Gaba, event coordinator for the City of Salisbury, said, “We’re so excited for this kickoff to Third Friday with Salisbury University. It’s probably going to be our largest Third Friday this year, if not one of the largest we’ve ever done.”

Between shuttling students from campus to downtown and a stage full of performances, Bailey Gaba said, “We’ve got lots of activities going on, and student-affiliated groups will be downtown. We’ve actually even expanded our event footprint a little bit just to accommodate it.”

With the city going all out for the first Third Friday back, local businesses are just as excited.

Jordan Townsend, owner of Bury Tavern, said, “I’m excited for the weather breaking. It’s sunny out, so Friday is just such a lively atmosphere downtown. There are people walking all around. There are vendors.”

Townsend is ready for the crowds and Salisbury University students to take over downtown. He said, “We’re offering meal vouchers. Hopefully it brings a lot of the SU students downtown, where I feel like they don’t necessarily frequent, and maybe they’ll understand that this is a really cool area with a lot to do.”

Bury Tavern along with many other downtown businesses will be participating in the TAPS program. The TAPS program lets anyone over 21 participate in a “walk-and-sip” event. Participants will be able to enjoy drinks from participating downtown restaurants while staying within a designated area.

Nicole Rogers, owner of Two Scoops is excited to kick off the event with a special, “We did a collaboration with Frozen Farmer, who makes our ice cream, and we have a special-edition ice cream for every Third Friday that goes with the theme. We’re especially excited because we will have an SU-themed ice cream in the house.”

She added, “We will have donuts. We will have coffee flowing. We’ll have milkshakes.”

Main and Division streets will be closed next Friday starting at 11 a.m. and will reopen around 9 p.m.
