Sussex Academy boy’s lacrosse topples Indian River in Henlopen South bout

GEORGETOWN, Del. – Sussex Academy boy’s lacrosse toppled Indian River 16-6 Friday evening in Georgetown.

After a tightly contested first quarter that ended 5-3 in favor of the Seahawks, Sussex Academy put some distance between themselves and their Henlopen South foe, scoring four unanswered in the second to take a six-goal advantage into the break at 9-3.

A low-scoring third quarter saw the game head to its final stanza still at a six-goal difference, with Sussex Academy leading IR 10-4.

As was the case for much of the day, the Sussex Academy defense–headlined by 22 saves from senior goalie Jackson Hagy–held firm as the offense salted away the remainder of the game for a convincing victory.

Gideon Sammons powered the Seahawks’ offense with three goals and four assists, while Cooper Hagy added a hat trick of his own along with three helpers. Tyler Jarrell netted four goals and Chase Ballinger chipped in five points on two goals to round out a productive day on offense for Sussex Academy.

The Seahawks (5-1) find themselves in the driver’s seat in the Henlopen South after handing Indian River (6-1) their first loss of the season. The teams will go for round two late in the season at Indian River on Friday, May 8th.
