Shore to Shore: A bright and bold brunch spot you can’t miss
WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. — In the latest edition of Shore to Shore, an Ocean City breakfast spot offers a unique twist on brunch. WMDT spoke to the colorful gem about its bold flavors and vibrant atmosphere.
Sid Zweigbaum, co-owner of The Bayside Skillet, said, “Most people in the area know it’s kind of a unique breakfast experience. We don’t have toasters, pancakes, or waffles. We specialize in what we specialize in, and we think we’re really good at it because of that.”
The vibrant, colorful restaurant, located off Coastal Highway, is hard to miss, thanks to Zweigbaum’s mom, who had an eye for pink.
“You’ll see pink tables and chairs. Whenever we have an opportunity to find pink stuff, we get more pink stuff,” said Zweigbaum. “Not everything in this world is made in bright pink, so sometimes we have to go with soft pink. We also use some yellows and blues, but it’s mostly pink.”
The Bayside Skillet opened on July 5, 1977, with the Zweigbaum family making their mark on Ocean City.
“Every day when I was growing up, my parents were working. After school, I’d go to work. Someone was always there to pick me up, but they were working every day,” Zweigbaum said.
The dedication of his parents to the business inspired him to continue the family legacy.
“I’d like to keep it in our family as long as I can, maybe until 2077, and then hopefully my little ones, if I have any, will keep it going,” Zweigbaum said.
That goal seems achievable in Ocean City, where many local businesses thrive.
“What makes us special is there are so many great small, independently owned businesses,” Zweigbaum said. “We’re not the only place for breakfast, and there are plenty of great places for dinner as well.”
As for The Bayside Skillet’s signature dishes, Zweigbaum recommends the Dirty Banana Royale—a crepe with chocolate and caramelized banana butter. “If I wanted something savory in addition to that, I’d probably go with our Hot Lantern, which is our take on chicken and waffles, but it’s chicken and crepes.”
Whether it’s your first or 50th time, enjoying these crepes guarantees a memorable experience.
“We just try to make sure that each person has a special experience when they come,” Zweigbaum said.
The Bayside Skillet is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The restaurant doesn’t take reservations but offers over 400 seats. To avoid long waits, it’s best to arrive early.
