Shooting suspect in custody after multi-agency investigation
LAUREL, Del. — A 16-year-old suspect is in custody following a shooting earlier this month at a Laurel apartment complex, police said.
The Laurel Police Department announced the arrest in connection with an April 1 shooting at the Little Creek Apartments. Authorities said detectives identified the suspect through investigative efforts and extensive cooperation from witnesses and the public.
An arrest warrant was obtained charging the teen with attempted manslaughter, first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, firearm possession despite a prior felony conviction, first-degree reckless endangering, and three counts of criminal mischief over $1,000.
Investigators later received information that the suspect had fled to Maryland. In coordination with the Cambridge Police Department, the suspect was located in Cambridge and taken into custody without incident on Friday evening.
Police said the suspect was found with a 3D-printed “ghost gun” equipped with a high-capacity magazine and modified for fully automatic fire. The weapon was loaded with ammunition consistent with evidence recovered from the April 1 shooting.
The suspect is being held pending extradition to Laurel. Authorities said the investigation remains active and additional charges may be filed.
Anyone with further information is urged to contact the Laurel Police Department and reference complaint number 70-26-1238. Officials emphasized that all individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
