Road closures planned for coastal Delaware running festival
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. — Thousands of runners are expected to participate in the Coastal Delaware Running Festival on Sunday, April 12, prompting temporary road closures and traffic restrictions throughout the city, officials said.
The event includes a 9K, half marathon, and full marathon, with routes spanning Rehoboth Beach and nearby areas. Road access will be limited in several neighborhoods as runners make their way through the course.
City officials said the following roads will be restricted to local residents only from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.:
Henlopen Avenue, with Henlopen Acres residents advised to use Second Street
Columbia Avenue
Grove Street between Columbia Avenue and Henlopen Avenue
Gerar Street
Sussex Street between 4th and 5th streets
Ocean Drive
Surf Avenue
In addition, drivers should expect brief closures and delays on several roads between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., including:
Lake Avenue
Oak Avenue
Second Street between Columbia Avenue and Lake Avenue
Virginia Avenue in the first block
First Street between Virginia Avenue and Lake Avenue
Officials urged motorists to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use alternate routes when possible.
“We appreciate your cooperation and patience during these closures,” city officials said in a statement.
