(FEDERALSBURG, Md) – For the last year, people have normally been able to get their soul food fix at Porter’s in Caroline County. But unfortunately, owner Rod Porter hasn’t been seeing much in the way of business, as a Google search shows his restaurant as permanently closed.

And Rod says this has been going on for the better part of a couple of months.

He tells WMDT, “I noticed this, customers started calling me probably about two months ago, but I thought it would, straighten up after two months. But it goes back to that, after a certain amount of time…”

Rod opened in Federalsburg in 2025, after selling his original restaurant in Cambridge a couple of years ago.

And he had been doing well, selling soul food staples like baked chicken, mac and cheese and collard greens to those on the Eastern Shore and beyond. But, instead of people calling in their orders, he’s fielding calls from those asking if the eatery is even there.

“And I don’t understand why I’ve had a lot of customers to call me, and they’re telling me that, it says on Google that we’re permanently closed, and that’s why they haven’t come to the restaurant,” says Rod.

Despite the mistake on Google, Rod hasn’t let it stop him from making the dishes that helped build Porter Soul Food into a must-visit spot on the Eastern Shore…

And he wants people to know that they are very much open, and serving up their signature dishes for all.

“And, I just want everybody to know that we’re still open. We are not closed, and we aren’t going to close,” says Rod.
