Police Warn of Text Message Scam Targeting Ocean Pines Residents

OCEAN PINES, Md. — Police in Ocean Pines are warning residents about a scam involving fraudulent text messages containing QR codes.

The Ocean Pines Police Department said scammers are sending messages that appear to be official notices, urging recipients to scan a QR code. Authorities cautioned that the messages are not legitimate and may be an attempt to steal personal or financial information.

Officials advise residents not to click on any links or scan QR codes from unknown or suspicious messages. Instead, recipients should delete the messages immediately.

Police are reminding the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity as scammers continue to use new tactics to target victims.
