New Petting Zoo Opens in Wicomico County
PARSONSBURG, Md. — Whispering Willow Homestead in Parsonsburg celebrated its grand opening Wednesday. The small family farm and petting zoo houses a variety of animals and has activities for visitors of all ages.
“We have mangalica pigs, a couple regular pigs, mini pigs, goats, tons of different breeds of goats. We have baby doll sheep, which are really cute. We have a highland cow, a mini cow, chickens, ducks, and of course, our wonderful pony, Ranger, he’s amazing,” said owner Erica Coldiron.
Petting and feeding animals isn’t the only fun at the farm — there are plenty of activities and games like kid-friendly axe throwing, pony rides, and block stacking.
Coldiron says affordability and accessibility are key parts of their mission. “Accessibility was because of the fact that I wanted kids to get outside. I also wanted to make it very accessible for disabled children, and anyone handicapped. Most of the animals are pretty close to the pavement, and the ground is pretty hard so they can walk to them.”
Whispering Willow Homestead will be open Thursday through Monday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. They’re also hosting Easter egg hunts at 10 AM, 12 PM, and 2 PM on Saturday with special farm-related prizes.
