New Bookmobile unveiled in Sussex County
GEORGETOWN, Del. – On Apr 21, Sussex County unveiled a new bookmobile to deliver library services across southern Delaware.
An update to the library program launched in the 1970s, Sussex County Government held a ribbon-cutting for their bookmobile. This 2025 vehicle replaces the 1988 longtime bus that was recognized as one of the oldest bookmobiles in active service. Although the previous model was beloved, it presented financial and logistical challenges to the county library system.
The bookmobile will travel year-round throughout Sussex County, making stops at senior centers, schools, and other sites where a community library is not available. Along with books, the bus will offer movies and audio programs.
County Librarian Rachel Lynch says “Wherever it parks, stories open, connections grow, and the community comes a little closer together.”
