Home Destroyed, Dog Killed in Salisbury Housefire
SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury Fire Department and other local companies responded to a serious housefire on Friday morning.
At 5:29 a.m. on Apr. 3, 40 firefighters responded to a one-story residence on Richmond Avenue for a structure fire after it was reported by a neighbor. Crews battled the blaze for 45 minutes before extinguishing the fire. SFD reported using an aggressive attack to complete searches of the property, and one member was able to locate a dog in the house. While the pet was transferred to emergency medical services for further care, the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal confirmed that the dog passed away from its injuries.
The American Red Cross was reportedly contacted to assist the single, displaced occupant of the residence, who will also be assisted by family members.The total damage to the home and its contents is estimated to be valued at $170,000.
Fire marshals have determined that the fire originated in the roof of the structure, and was deemed accidental due to an unspecified electrical event.
