Garage fire spreads to nearby home in Denton
DENTON, Md. — Fire crews responded to a garage fire Sunday evening that spread to a nearby home along Shore Highway in Caroline County.
The Denton Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched at approximately 5:46 p.m. to the 26000 block of Shore Highway. Upon arrival, firefighters found a detached garage heavily involved, with flames extending into a single-family home located just a few feet away.
Crews worked quickly to contain the fire, preventing further damage to the residence. Additional assistance was provided by the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company, Ridgely Volunteer Fire Department, Greensboro Volunteer Fire Company, and Queen Anne-Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Company.
Once the fire was extinguished and overhaul operations were completed, the scene was turned over to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal, which is investigating the cause.
Officials said 26 volunteers from Denton responded to the incident, including units Engine 302, Engine 304, Rescue 300, Tanker 300, Command 300, Utility 300, and Brush 300. A deputy fire chief oversaw operations at the scene.
Fire officials expressed support for the family affected by the blaze.
