Easton Armory Set to Undergo Further Restorations

(EASTON, Md) – If you’re driving through downtown Easton, then you’re no doubt familiar with the Easton Armory. And the Waterfowl Festival, who own the building, are getting set for some well-deserved restorations just in time for a milestone anniversary.

For the last 99 years, plenty of people, like local business owner, Tim Boyle made memories tied up in the armory…including some unusual community events.

“I participated in that, back in 2015. I actually won the drag race, the fastest man on two heels. All the runners were introduced to the crowd around the building, you know, to the music of your choice coming down those steps and waving to the crowd and so forth. So that’s probably my most special memory of the, Waterfowl Building,” says Boyle.

That’s why some major restorations are planned for the armory starting later in April. They’re to help keep the history of the building alive as it continues to host community events. Including being the hub for the Waterfowl Festival.

Deena Kilmon, Executive Director of the Waterfowl Festival tells WMDT, “Being in it, working on it every year is important. Not only to the festival, but to the community at large. There are dozens of organizations that use this building. And the more that we repair it, the more opportunities they will have to use the new spaces that are fully restored.”

The roof that they are about to replace is just the next step in restorations to the armory.

The Waterfowl Festival has spent part of the money earned through past festivals and state grants for prior restorations…

With more updates planned.

“So we would like to take off these, stairs that were put there. Put in a structure that is has more integrity so that people can have more accessibility and, ease of use…” says Deena.

The Waterfowl Festival says the next big restoration project for the armory will surround the front stairs of the building.
