Earth day clean up event at Greenwood Elementary School

Princess Anne, MD. – A local Elementary School is celebrating Earth Day by teaching students to appreciate their local environment and school.

Classes at Greenwood Elementary School participated in a school wide clean up on Wednesday. Students got to see the importance of appreciating what’s close to them, like their friends and the local environment by searching the schoolyard and nearby homes for litter and properly disposing of it.

The students ended the day by reintroducing an old tradition of forming a circle around and hugging the school.

Crystal Gonzalez, a parent liaison to the school, hopes the tradition serves as a reminder to the kids of valuing what they have in their lives.

“It was a very old tradition that we haven’t done in years. We want to bring it back and also I think it’ll show the kids how much the school does for them and how much they can do for the school.”

Crystal encourages other schools to do similar events so that they continue to learn about caring for the environment and other important values.
