Driver Flees Scene After Rollover Crash in Harbeson

HARBESON, Del. — Emergency crews responded to a rollover crash early Friday morning in Harbeson, but the driver had fled the scene before authorities arrived, officials said.

The incident occurred around 5:58 a.m. on April 3 in the 30600 block of Hollymount Road. Indian River and Mid Sussex Rescue Squad units were initially dispatched for a reported motor vehicle collision involving a rollover, with early reports indicating possible entrapment. Sussex County paramedics were also alerted, while aviation assistance was unavailable due to weather conditions.

Additional resources, including the Lewes Fire Department, were requested following reports of entrapment. However, upon arrival, crews determined there was no one trapped inside the vehicle and no occupants at the scene.

Authorities said the crash involved a single four-door sedan that left the roadway for unknown reasons, overturned, and came to rest in a wooded area. Only property damage was reported.

Responding units were scaled back once it was confirmed no rescue was needed. The Delaware State Fire Police managed traffic control, closing portions of Hollymount Road during the response.

The Delaware State Police are investigating the crash.
