Discover Delmarva Arts: Community Players of Salisbury Presents Old Hams

SALISBURY, Md. — This spring, the Community Players of Salisbury are performing Old Hams, a fun, lighthearted comedy about a group of retired performers trying to save their home from being sold. Director Sherri Hynes says she wanted to put on a show that would highlight the Community Players’ senior talent.

“Our talent ranges from ages 5 and 6 to 85, and there aren’t enough shows for seniors. It’s good to have a show that embraces age,” Hynes said.

Actress Capri Harrison plays Clara Voyant, a mystic who hasn’t had a correct vision in quite some time. She said it’s every actress’s wish to play a role so vibrant. “The lines are just way off the charts. It’s just a lot of fun,” Harrison said.

For actor Frank Pasqualino, who plays Gus Hall, it’s his first time stepping on stage in a while — but thanks to the support of his castmates, he hasn’t missed a beat. “Everybody is so sharing on stage, and that is really important when you’re on stage, is that you can trust the people that are on stage with you and you know they’ve got your back all the time,” Pasqualino said.

With just nine people in the show, this cast is more connected and bonded than ever. “If you’re a part of a small group like this, and everything you go through for the last eight weeks — and getting to rehearsal on time, and screwing up your lines and everybody laughing — it creates a friendship and bond. I’m sure I will have these friends for the rest of my life,” Harrison said.

“You bond, you find connections, you share stories. … We go out to dinner together. It’s just a real connection that lasts a lifetime,” Hynes said.

You can catch Old Hams on Friday (4/17) and Saturday (4/18) at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday (4/19) at 2 p.m. To purchase tickets, visit https://www.onthestage.tickets/show/community-players-of-salisbury1/6954688e72d4f206ce69033e/tickets#/productions-view
