Delmarva Discovery Museum Announces Grand Re-Opening on May 30
POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – The Delmarva Discovery Museum has announced they will be re-opening their doors on Saturday, May 30, at 10:00 a.m.
Museum officials say their Re-opening Task Force is hard at work planning a day of special events, speakers, and more surprises for their return. The grand re-opening follows an outpouring of community support after the museum announced it would have to shut down due to rising operational costs. Over $100,000 in emergency funding help was raised in only 5 short days.
“Behind the scenes, existing exhibits are being refreshed and reorganized to better reflect the Museum’s educational mission and to create a more dynamic, accessible experience for guests,” the museum wrote in a message posted to social media. “Our most visible change will be for George, our wonderful snapping turtle. He is moving to a bigger aquarium where he can see more of what is happening in the Museum.”
Visitors can also look forward to two new exhibits that are currently nearing completion. The Museum also looks forward to introducing interactive, rotating, and traveling exhibits to its halls.
Additionally, the Delmarva Discovery Museum has launched its “Friends of the Museum” Advisory Council composed of engaged community leaders to provide strategic input on areas including visitor experience, community involvement, and organizational direction. Sarah Brinton is serving as the Advisory Council Chair.
“Real progress is happening, and it is being shaped by both hands-on work and community collaboration,” the museum added. “We are confident that each step we complete is helping us move forward in a thoughtful and sustainable manner.”
