Delmar softball tops DMA, earns third straight win to start season

DELMAR, Del. – Delmar softball took down Delaware Military Academy 8-1 Wednesday afternoon in Delmar.

The game remained scoreless into the third inning until Delmar’s Cheyanne Willey brought home Elle Preston from second base with an RBI double.

The Wildcats expanded their lead in the bottom of the fourth, with Preston notching a two-RBI single in a bases-loaded no-out situation. After Olivia Smith scored on a passed ball, Averi Naugle drove in another run to make it 5-0 in favor of Delmar.

Delmar’s advantage stayed at five runs until Macy Rickards and Marleigh Wells both recorded base hits with runners in scoring position, stretching the lead to eight heading into the seventh inning.

DMA found a rally in the top of the seventh, but the Wildcats cut it short to take the game comfortably.

Delmar pitcher Macy Rickards struck out nine and scattered three hits in the complete-game victory.

The Wildcats move to 3-0 with the win, they’ll head to Milford to take on the buccaneers on Thursday, April 2.
