Centennial Tree Planting

SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University celebrated Arbor Day on April 24th by planting their official centennial tree right outside of Holloway Hall.

Salisbury staff planted a Bur Oak tree which was donated by Alumnus, Richard Givens, who has also been a long-standing supporter of the institute. The tree will become a part of the University’s Glenda Chatham Clarke National Arboretum, which was named after two Alumni of S.U., Glenda Chatham Clarke, and her husband, Robert Clarke.

President of the University, Lyn Lepre says the tree is a living reminder of what the institution is which is a place for people to come together and learn.

“We hope that this tree helps celebrate not only just 100 years of Salisbury University, but the future potential and what it will provide for students in the future. It’s all about growth. It’s all about providing a place for people to come and learn, and then go off and do wonderful things,” Lepre said.

Even if you’re not a student, you could always walk around on campus arboretum. They have a wide variety of trees that are all labeled. To learn about the history of the arboretum, visit Salisbury University’s website.
